Before joining Skyscanner, I had another offer which was great. The company was working with cool tech. The company was all about VR stuff. But... at the end, when chatting about the future, they mentioned that they were moving with their tech to p*rn...
Not sure I will be writing an article about this 😅 a bit of weird story. But happy go through it in detail in a call if you are free in mornings one of these days!
I use a pretty similar framework the breaks down work into two parts:
1. Business domain
2. (Technical) challenge
3. People
4. Compensation
And one small nit regarding the CAP theorem. In more than 99% of the time, you can have all three. CAP talks about the rare cases when things don’t go well.
Thanks for sharing! I like the idea of comparing it to CAP Theorem.
But I believe that there are opportunities where pay, people, and work can all be good. They exist, but they are rare, and already occupied by the best people in the industry.
I also worked in a similar industry for a few months and I'm glad I was out early. There are so many gray areas that make people uncomfortable. I would also advise against being in that industry.
Great post Stephane. I liked the Pay, People, Work trio except I don't think it's as strict as CAP theorem. Imagine if that 200k had aligned with your values, you could have had all three 😀
Something similar happened to me!

I just couldn't take the offer.
Oh wow.. interesting! I want to know more about this!! When are we expecting an article on it Jose?

Loved the way you explained your rationale for making the decision.
Did the thought of staying in your comfort zone ever occur to you?
Thank you for sharing, I felt the same when contacted to work in a major name of the adult industry.
I had never thought about the Career Triangle, but it all makes sense. It reminds me of the beautiful / cheap / fast in design: you can only have 2.
